It’s no secret I love my dogs and something that is really close to my little family’s heart is the RSPCA. Dexter, my bundle of scruffy trouble, was abandoned and found wandering by the RSPCA as a puppy. Not long after we walked through their doors ‘just for a quick look’ and thanks to their hard work (and excellent sales pitch) we found our Dexter. So, when we heard about the RSPCA Million Paws Walk this weekend we put our hands (and paws) up to raise some cash and awareness for all the great work these guys do.
After some quick retail therapy we headed toward the starting line, the doggies now sporting some funky bandanas.
And we’re off! Joined by Sonya calff – on Jiffy leading duties, Pat – photo duties, myself with Dexter and Kelly Jane with Cleo and Ruby, we begin our 4k stroll with hundreds of other walkers and their pooches.
I was blown away by the amount of people walking for this awesome cause. There were shady drink stops run by volunteers all along the way for the four legged participants to stay hydrated and never an event organiser/helper far away when you needed them.
Waiting at the finish line all the pups got a certificate for participating. A little hot we retired to the shade to watch the ajility teams put on a great show – we even got to have a turn. The crowd hung around for the doggy fashion parade, jumping castle, celebrity meet and greet, BBQ and market stalls. After a bite to eat it was time to take our very tired pups home.
All in all a super morning, the event was great fun and we got to be among hundreds of other people marching against animal cruelty and raising awareness and money so that the RSPCA can continue doing their great work. I was humbled by the amount of people that showed up on the day to support the event.
I am looking forward to next years Paws Walk and planning to get a bigger team of owners and dogs together. Hope you can join me next year! Support our fur babies!
